Tetra Pak and Green Earth Recycling Partnership Goes from Strength to Strength

Lahore, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Tetra Pak Pakistan and Green Earth Recycling hosted a visit for Mrs. Rukhsana Naveed Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change. During the visit the Secretary for Climate Change was briefed on the long-standing partnership between the two companies since 2014 which is now resulting in over 41% of Tetra Pak’s production of carton packaging which is approximately 26000 tons to be collected from across the country and recycled. She was also briefed regarding Tetra Pak’s global sustainability commitments and its subsequent global campaign entitled “Go Nature Go Carton” which highlights the measures the company is taking to create a sustainable value chain around the world.

As part of the visit, the honourable Secretary for Climate Change was also taken on a tour of the recycling plant where Tetra Pak cartons are separated as part of certain processes and strong paper fibers are extracted and processed to be sent to large paper mills across the country to be used as raw materials for a wide range of products; the remaining polyethylene and aluminium parts are granulated to be reintroduced into the economy by making them into new products, such as roofing tiles, pellets, park benches, waste bins and much more.

In his statement, Tetra Pak Pakistan’s Managing Director Awais Bin Nasim, said: “The times we live in have clearly demonstrated the fact that our planet, society, and economy are inevitably interconnected. We as responsible corporate citizens have a role to play for a sustainable future. As Tetra Pak, we have collaborated with Green Earth Recycling a state-of-the-art pioneer in the industry, enabling the recycling of all components of Tetra Pak carton packages since 2014. We are happy to see that a growing rate of our carton packages are being turned into useful products which are a part of everyday life. To contribute to both our country and our planet, we wish to enhance our efforts by continuing to play an active role in initiatives for a low-carbon circular economy and recycling.

Highlighting the fact that they have achieved a success story which is in line with the Prime Ministers Vision for a Clean Green Pakistan, Green Earth Recycling Director Babar Bhatti, added: “This journey we have embarked upon with Tetra Pak to turn all components of carton packages into valuable end products has been an exciting and inspiring one. We are very happy for having achieved such success with this plant which is one of very few in Pakistan and comparable to the best recycling plants across the globe. I truly Believe that the future of carton recycling in Pakistan is bright, we continue our efforts to support it through our strong business partnerships.”
