U.S. Ambassador Reaffirms Trade Commitment on Visit to Sialkot Chamber of Commerce

Sialkot: In a significant step towards strengthening U.S.-Pakistan trade relations, U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome, along with U.S. Consul General Lahore Kristin K. Hawkins, visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on September 24, 2024. This visit, marking Ambassador Blome’s second to the historic industrial hub, aimed to explore new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as clean energy and climate action.

According to The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SCCI President Abdul Ghafoor Malik highlighted the strategic importance of Sialkot as a major export hub for sports goods, surgical instruments, and textiles, and emphasized the need for deeper business ties between U.S. companies and Sialkot’s industries. The visit underscores the U.S. commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and investment flows, which are pivotal for the economic development of both nations.

During the meeting, Malik also praised the U.S. government’s support for Pakistan’s goal to shift towards 60% renewable energy by 2030. He specifically noted the benefits of the “Recharge Pakistan” initiative, which Ambassador Blome had previously discussed. This project aims to improve Pakistan’s water security and agricultural productivity by rehabilitating floodwater channels and irrigation systems, thereby supporting Pakistani farmers and the broader economy.

The collaboration between U.S. businesses and Sialkot’s industries not only fosters local economic growth but also contributes to the global reach of Pakistani exports, enhancing the overall U.S.-Pakistan trade relationship.
