UBG Calls for Corporate Farming to Boost Pakistan’s Agriculture Sector

Karachi, In a strategic move to rejuvenate Pakistan's agriculture sector, the United Business Group (UBG) has advocated for the adoption of corporate farming practices. During a recent meeting, UBG's leadership, including S M Tanveer, Zubair Tufail, Khalid Tawab, Hanif Gohar, Syed Mazher Ali Nasir, Malik Khuda Bakhsh, and others, highlighted the potential of corporate farming to transform agricultural productivity and sustainability.

According to United Business Group, the leadership urged provincial governments to take the lead in inviting both local and foreign investments into the agriculture sector through corporate farming. They called on provincial chief ministers to instruct their agriculture departments to quickly prepare and submit proposals that would facilitate the establishment of corporate farming projects. The UBG leaders emphasized the critical role of modern technologies in increasing crop yields and overall agricultural output.

The group underscored the necessity of enhancing the capabilities of agriculture department wings, particularly research centers, to maximize resource use for farmers' benefit and the broader economy. Moreover, the UBG leaders proposed that provincial governments support corporate farming ventures by providing vital inputs like fortified seeds, subsidized fertilizers, and access to water, especially for underutilized lands.

Additionally, the importance of creating inclusive opportunities for local growers to engage in corporate farming was highlighted. This approach aims to introduce local farmers to advanced agricultural methods, enabling them to improve their practices and contribute significantly to the sector's modernization.

The advocacy for corporate farming by UBG is seen as aligning with the goals of the "Green Pakistan Initiative," which focuses on modernizing agricultural techniques and promoting sustainable development across the country. This call to action represents a significant step towards addressing the challenges facing Pakistan's agricultural sector and setting a course for enhanced productivity and sustainability.
