Karachi: Pakistani telecom operator, Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), operating as Ufone, has officially entered the 5G market in Pakistan, equipped with the largest share of the 3500 MHz frequency band, a critical component in global 5G connectivity. The planned merger with Telenor Pakistan, pending regulatory approvals, is anticipated to make the combined entity, known as MergeCo, the largest spectrum holder in the nation's telecom industry.
According to Ufone 4G, MergeCo will possess a comprehensive spectrum portfolio of 292.4 MHz, surpassing its nearest competitor by 8 MHz. This extensive range, covering low, mid, and high frequency bands, is expected to enhance digital services for individual and enterprise customers. PTML's strategic acquisition in the 3500 MHz and 2600 MHz bands aims to deliver faster data speeds and a superior user experience.
The 120 MHz contiguous spectrum owned by PTML will facilitate wider 5G channels, aligning with global standards to offer higher peak speeds and stable data throughput. This capacity will accommodate a larger number of concurrent users, particularly in urban areas with high demand. Post-merger, MergeCo's capabilities are set to unlock advanced digital experiences, such as ultra-high-definition streaming and immersive cloud gaming.
With 44.8 MHz in low-frequency bands, MergeCo plans to expand reliable internet services across rural and semi-urban regions, leveraging its extensive telecom footprint to enhance nationwide coverage. The integration is expected to improve the overall 4G experience as well.
