KARACHI: Umar Ahsan Khan, CEO and Managing Director of Dawlance (Private) Limited, has been elected President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI). The announcement was made during the Chamber's Extra-Ordinary General Meeting held on Tuesday.
According to Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ahmed Zahid Zaheer, Country Chairman and GM of Chevron Lubricants Pakistan (Private) Limited, has been elected as Senior Vice President, while Dr. Syed Amir Ali, President and CEO of Meezan Bank Limited, will serve as Vice President. Umar Ahsan Khan takes over from Yousaf Hussain, who led the Chamber from 2024 to 2026.
At the meeting, outgoing President Yousaf Hussain acknowledged the progress on economic stability but emphasized the need for growth through stronger investment, exports, productivity, and job creation. Umar Ahsan Khan stated that the Chamber's advocacy will remain evidence-based and constructive. He highlighted the need for practical solutions and collaboration with the government and other stakeholders.
Khan expressed concern over the 34 percent decline in foreign direct investment, which fell to USD 1.65 billion last financial year. He stressed that while macroeconomic stabilization is important, the broader investment environment ultimately influences capital commitment.
During the upcoming term, the new Managing Committee plans to enhance engagement with government bodies, regulators, and international institutions. The committee also aims to bolster OICCI's data-driven research and continue its initiatives on climate, diversity and inclusion, technology, and AI.
The newly announced Managing Committee for 2026-28 includes prominent figures from various industries, further indicating OICCI's comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities facing overseas investors in Pakistan.
