Karachi: The US Consul General in Karachi, Mr. Scott Urbom, opened the trading day at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) by striking the gong at a ceremony attended by representatives from US-based companies in Pakistan. The Consul General and his team were welcomed by Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Chairperson of PSX, along with Mr. Nadeem Naqvi, Acting CEO of PSX, and other board members and senior management of the exchange.
According to Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited, Mr. Naqvi expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted Karachi’s central role in Pakistan’s economy, emphasizing its potential as a hub for both local and foreign businesses. He noted the entrepreneurial energy in Karachi as a driving force for economic growth.
Dr. Akhtar, speaking at the event, underscored the PSX’s role in capital formation and wealth creation, while also inviting more investment from US-based investors and fund managers. She also emphasized the importance of bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United States, urging more US-based companies to list on the PSX and expand trade opportunities between the two countries.
In his remarks, Mr. Urbom emphasized the significant contribution of American businesses to Pakistan’s economy, highlighting their role as major employers and their commitment to corporate social responsibility. He expressed a desire to further strengthen the economic partnership between the two nations.
The ceremony concluded with Dr. Akhtar and the PSX board expressing their appreciation to Mr. Urbom and his team for their visit, with hopes for continued cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in the economic and financial sectors.
