Karachi, May 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Auto - Auto sales - Worsening inventory issues

Total industry sales for April’23 clocked in at 4,463 vehicles (-84%YoY/-65%MoM), consisting of 2,844 passenger cars (-85%YoY/-61%MoM), 1,619 LCVs and Pickups (-59%YoY/-25% MoM), 136 trucks (-67%YoY/-51%MoM) and 16 buses (-70%YoY/-45%MoM). The sequential drop in vehicle sales can be attributed to supply chain constraints with the industry witnessing frequent plant shutdowns on the back of low inventories.

Segment-wise, the 1000cc segment emerged as the least favourite, down by 71%MoM while declining by 92%YoY. The 1300cc and above segment saw volumes decrease by 46%MoM while declining by 83%YoY. The 800cc and below segment witnessed a massive decline, by 70%MoM and decline of 83% on yearly basis.

Amongst major OEMs, PSMC/INDU/HCAR posted sales of 1,474/1,948/207 units a decline of 88%/66%/92% YoY. On a MoM basis, HCAR witnessed massive decline of 75% followed by PSMC posted a decline of 74%MoM basis while INDU remaining flat on MoM basis.

Tractor sales have remained flat on MoM basis to clock in at 3,211 units in the month. AGTL’s sales witnessed a massive increase, clocking in at 2,005 units up by 5.37xMoM, while MTL recorded sales of 1,206 units, down by 55%MoM. On a yearly basis, AGTL and MTL have witnessed declines of 23%/46%YoY.
