Auto Sales Surge 31% Year-Over-Year in December amid Monthly Decline

Karachi: Auto sales experienced a significant increase in December 2025, with a 31% rise from the previous year, reaching approximately 13,300 units. This growth was driven by all four major industry players, including HCAR, which saw a 75% increase, INDU with a 40% rise, Pak Suzuki up by 9%, and SAZEW, which tripled its sales year-over-year.

Despite the annual growth, there was a 14% decline in four-wheeler sales from the previous month. This monthly decrease aligns with historical trends, as consumers often postpone purchases to acquire newer model year vehicles.

Looking forward, auto sales are anticipated to maintain their upward trajectory, bolstered by improved consumer confidence, macroeconomic stability, and decreasing financing rates. However, the long-term outlook appears less certain. The International Monetary Fund's advocacy for a gradual reduction in weighted average tariffs on imported cars poses a challenge by decreasing protection for the local industry and increasing exposure to foreign competition.

These developments suggest a dynamic period ahead for the auto industry, as it navigates both growth opportunities and potential challenges on the horizon.
