Lahore: The Bank of Punjab's Board of Directors has approved a proposal for an equity injection of up to PKR 30 billion by the Government of Punjab, aimed at bolstering the bank's capital base to support its growth aspirations. The shares will be issued at a minimum price of PKR 38.20 per share, with the possibility of a premium if the market price exceeds this amount at the time of issuance.
According to The Bank of Punjab, this capital injection is a significant step in the bank's transformation journey, which has seen it become a leader in several key sectors within Pakistan's economy, including SME, agriculture, and affordable housing finance. The equity boost is expected to alleviate pressure on the bank's capital base and facilitate continued growth in its core markets, alongside the expansion of low-cost deposits.
The proposed equity injection is described as growth capital, with the bank having recorded substantial revenue and earnings growth in 2025. It is poised to support BOP's ongoing expansion, including its recently approved international ventures. Zafar Masud, the bank's President & CEO, noted the government's investment as a testament to BOP's strategy and its people, and highlighted the bank's readiness to scale its priority-sector franchises.
The capital raise is scheduled to be completed in phases, with a target completion date of June 30, 2027.
