Peshawar: Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, has initiated the Billion Tree Plus campaign, aimed at combating climate change and enhancing the region's environmental resilience.
According to Zameen.Com, the campaign was inaugurated with a tree-planting ceremony at the Commissioner's House in Peshawar. Commissioner Mehsud planted the first sapling, marking the start of an ambitious drive that plans to plant 750,000 saplings across the Peshawar Division. This extensive greening effort covers all five districts of the division, including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand Tribal District, and Khyber District, and is set to unfold during the monsoon season.
Special teams have been assembled for this massive undertaking, comprising Deputy Commissioners and District Forest Officers, who are tasked with ensuring the drive’s success. Commissioner Mehsud has taken a personal interest in the campaign, providing special instructions to all Deputy Commissioners involved and committing to oversee the project’s execution to guarantee its effective completion.
