Chairman, The Karachi Cotton Association hailed the decision of Government to form Pakistan Cotton Authority

Karachi, February 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Khawaja M. Zubair, Chairman, The Karachi Cotton Association, has hailed the decision of the Government, as reported in the Press, to form Pakistan Cotton Authority (PCA) to ensure the provision of quality seed, monitoring and enhancing the cotton yield with a view to increase production of cotton in the country.

Chairman, the KCA has also welcomed the decision of the Government to create a Farmers’ Forum under the Federal Minister for Food, Security and Research to ensure the representation of the Farmers in policy making and for early resolution for their issues and to hold National Cotton Conference to address the difficulties and problems being faced by the Cotton Trade at national level.

Chairman, the KCA is of the view that the above referred decisions taken by the Government in right directions and would help to achieve sustainable growth in production of cotton and safeguard the interest of the Cotton Growers as future of the country depends on growth of agriculture specially growth of cotton.

Chairman, the KCA is also of the view that in addition to the steps being taken by the Government to ensure the provision of quality seed, monitoring and enhancing the cotton yield and the representation of the Farmers in policy making and for early resolution for their issues, the Government should also focus to (i) mobilize all resources at Federal and Provincial levels to bring more area under cotton cultivation specially in Balochistan with a view to increase yield per acre (ii) place ban on cultivation of Paddy/Sugarcane and setting-up of Sugar mills in the areas already earmarked for cultivation of cotton (iii) gear-up Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) / all the Cotton Research Institutes to evolve high yield / virus resistance cotton seed varieties for cultivation (iv) take measures to import pure and certified pesticides in small packing instead of bulk in order to avoid adulteration (v) advice the cotton growers and the ginners to switchover to modern farming and ginning practices year after year to increase cotton production and improve quality of cotton to achieve the desired results.
