Lahore: In a significant move to boost urban transport, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz was briefed on the ‘Lahore Shop and Drop Tramway’ project, which promises to improve accessibility across major areas of the city by introducing an 8.2-kilometer tramway connecting vital locales.
According to Zameen.Com, the tramway is designed to link Kalma Chowk, Main Boulevard, Hussain Chowk, M.M. Alam Road, and Mini Market, featuring five trams operating in unison. With trams available every two minutes at each stop, the project aims to significantly enhance commuter convenience and reduce travel times in the densely populated areas of Lahore.
In the broader scope of urban development, the meeting also covered additional infrastructure improvements. The Chief Minister reviewed proposals including the construction of a new road from Karim Block to the Motorway, the demolition of the deteriorating Data Nagar flyover, and a comprehensive ‘LDA Road Network Restructuring Plan.’
Further emphasizing the commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure, CM Maryam directed relevant development institutions to create an extensive plan to repair potholes throughout Lahore, ensuring smoother and safer travel for residents. The ‘LDA Development and CM Initiative’ was thoroughly reviewed during the meeting to guarantee the effective execution of these critical urban enhancement projects.
