Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Launches Initiative to Provide Free Housing for Workers in Punjab

Lahore: In a significant move to boost worker welfare, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on July 11 a new initiative to provide 1,224 free flats to workers in Taxila and Sundar labour colonies. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to enhance living conditions and support for the workforce across the region.

According to Zameen.Com, the announcement was made during a high-level meeting focused on reviewing the Labour Department's activities and the ongoing worker welfare projects. The meeting covered extensive ground, discussing scholarships for workers, labour colonies, and healthcare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for workers and their families.

Chief Minister Maryam detailed several key actions, including the allocation of PKR 6 billion for overdue death and marriage grants benefiting over 29,000 workers. Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of two hostels in Garment City, Sheikhupura, which will accommodate 704 women workers, reinforcing the government's support for female workforce participation.

Reaffirming her administration's commitment to labour rights, CM Maryam emphasized the enforcement of a minimum wage of PKR 37,000, ensuring that worker protections and welfare remain at the forefront of government policy. She stressed the collective responsibility to protect workers' rights and well-being across Punjab.
