Karachi, November 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Director General Federal Investigation Agency, Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi along with his team, visited the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on October 30, 2021, to have an interactive session with the members of the chamber and to understand the challenges faced by them. M. Abdul Aleem, Secretary General, OICCI and Asad Said Jafar, Chairman and CEO, Signify Pakistan Limited, welcomed the guests.
Dr. Abbasi was given a detailed presentation by M. Abdul Aleem, which included a snapshot of the members contribution to the economy, overview of latest Business Confidence Index Survey, assessment of the current security environment, members concerns on IPR protection, infringement and other FIA related issues, and comparative FDI snapshot of Pakistan with other countries in the region. He mentioned that Pakistan has lagged other countries in the region in attracting FDI (as % of GDP) and emphasized the need in improving the implementation of IPR laws, which has been one of the major concerns of OICCI members.
Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi explained the role of FIA in providing business community a safe and secure environment and assured his full support and cooperation. He highlighted the importance of cooperation between LEAs and business community for improving the economic outlook of the country.
In addition to strict enforcement of IPR infringements and liaising more closely with IPOP on IPR matters, chamber members also raised their issues and concerns relating to delays in insurance claims due to lengthy inquiries at FIA, role of FIA in defamation cases and complaints for fake websites, unilateral closure of complaints, need for creating awareness at national level for cybercrimes and cybersecurity, and the time period for retrieval of information from archives in various inquiries.
DG FIA showed keen interest to resolve these issues on priority basis. He also suggested to provide a contact person for OICCI, to address members concerns in a timely manner and provide regular updates on the progress. He also expressed his interest in meeting with the members of Oil Marketing Companies to better understand their concerns.
Concluding the discussion, Asad Said Jafar, thanked Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi for his vision, approach and sparing his time to listen the issues of members. He also expressed his pleasure on the actions agreed in the session and thanked the participants who highlighted important queries and expressed chamber’s viewpoint.
