KARACHI: Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liaison Office Karachi, Muhammad Irfan Soomro, emphasized the growing importance of economic diplomacy as a key component of Pakistan's foreign policy. This shift is aimed at boosting trade, investment, and exports in conjunction with traditional diplomatic efforts.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Soomro addressed industrialists during his visit to KATI, highlighting the pivotal role of the industrial sector in Pakistan's economic framework. He stressed the Foreign Office's expanded role in promoting Pakistan's access to new markets and fostering business-to-business relationships globally.

Soomro outlined the Foreign Office's initiatives in addressing international challenges such as GSP Plus status and compliance with Financial Action Task Force requirements. He noted Pakistan's improving investment climate and positive outlook from international credit rating agencies, attributing this to the government's sustained efforts.

KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput underscored the necessity of economic diplomacy and urged for the enhancement of Trade and Investment Desks at embassies. He advocated for simplified business visa procedures and stronger diplomatic facilitation for participating in international trade forums.

Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya called for increased engagement of Pakistani commercial attachés with local industrialists to enhance exports, highlighting the need for better coordination between the Foreign Office and the industrial sector to address market access issues.

The meeting included discussions on industrial challenges and proposals for enhancing Pakistan's economic diplomacy, with active participation from KATI members and other industrial representatives.
