Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Gain Support from Business Leader

Karachi: Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Amaan Piracha, expressed support for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to expedite the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, describing it as a positive step forward.

Piracha also highlighted the need to accelerate the privatization of electricity distribution companies. He noted that loss-making power generation companies are a burden on the national economy and should be auctioned off. The first phase of privatizing these companies has already added Rs9.5 billion to the national treasury.

To enhance industrial production and exports, Piracha urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries by connecting them directly to transmission lines.

He recommended that the government consult with FPCCI leadership for the development of electric vehicles nationwide. Accelerating the installation of EV charging stations and providing incentives to local and foreign investors in this sector were also suggested.

Piracha emphasized energy efficiency and called for the fulfillment of bank commitments to provide loans for energy-efficient fans, helping middle-class consumers save electricity and reduce their bills.
