KARACHI: Emirati business magnate Suhail Muhammad Al Zarooni has called upon Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to intervene in the ongoing dispute over the Sakina Sultan Mosque in Defence Phase 8, Karachi, which has been under occupation for three years despite numerous appeals to senior civil and military officials.

According to Al Zarooni Group, the mosque was constructed in 2006 by Suhail Al Zarooni in memory of his late mother, Sakina Sultan. The UAE businessman expressed concern regarding the prolonged occupation and urged the Field Marshal to ensure the mosque's restoration. He argued that this action would safeguard a charitable institution and reinforce the relationship between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Al Zarooni recounted that when the mosque was allegedly occupied three years ago, he sought help from then Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir. However, despite the passage of time and repeated requests, the issue remains unresolved.

In 2024, letters were sent to the Chief of Army Staff, Corps Commander Karachi, DG Pakistan Rangers Sindh, IG Police, Chief Minister, and the Sindh Governor. Yet, according to Suhail Al Zarooni, no substantial progress has been made. He noted that a court had ordered the mosque's possession to be returned, but the matter remains mired in appeals filed by the occupants.

He also questioned the Defence Housing Authority's prolonged inaction, noting that although the alleged occupants filed a case against the DHA, the authority has failed to act decisively for three years.

Suhail Al Zarooni warned that the unresolved dispute could undermine the confidence of Emirati businessmen who have supported philanthropic efforts in Pakistan. He cautioned that if possession of the Sakina Sultan Mosque is not restored, it could impact UAE businessmen's trust in Pakistan's charitable environment, potentially affecting philanthropic activities across the country.

Reiterating his appeal, Suhail Al Zarooni urged Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to personally intervene and ensure the mosque is returned to its rightful management. He emphasized that a prompt resolution would demonstrate Pakistan's commitment to protecting charitable institutions and further strengthen Pakistan-UAE relations.
