Engro Polymer and Chemicals Unveils Rs 11.7 Billion Hydrogen Peroxide Plant

Karachi: Engro Polymer and Chemicals (EPCL), a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, has launched a Rs 11.7 billion hydrogen peroxide plant, marking a significant milestone in its investment efforts to bolster Pakistan's economic growth. The project, supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), aims to expand EPCL's footprint in the hydrogen peroxide market.

According to a statement by Engro Corporation Limited, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 28,000 tons and is equipped with advanced Chematur technology. This development is expected to facilitate import substitution worth approximately USD 11 million by ensuring adequate local production, thereby reducing Pakistan's reliance on foreign suppliers.

The hydrogen peroxide will be marketed under the brand name PureOxide by Engro Peroxide (Private) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of EPCL. As the sole hydrogen peroxide manufacturer in southern Pakistan, EPCL intends to offer reliable delivery and safe packaging to customers, reducing lead times and costs with just-in-time deliveries. The product will be transported in specially designed HDPE jerry cans to enhance safety and reduce fire risks. Furthermore, PureOxide boasts a lower carbon footprint and higher energy efficiency due to EPCL's integrated caustic manufacturing process.

Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, CEO of EPCL, highlighted that the hydrogen peroxide business would bolster local industries, particularly export-oriented textile firms, by providing a high-quality product locally. He expressed confidence that PureOxide would become the preferred choice for customers in Pakistan and beyond due to its quality, safety, and sustainability.

Ahsan Zafar Syed, President and CEO of Engro Corporation, reiterated the company's commitment to growth and Pakistan's potential through this substantial investment. He expressed gratitude to the EPCL leadership, IFC, project team, and partners for their support in bringing the project to fruition.
