Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a one-month extension for exporters to submit the required affidavit with their sales tax returns. This decision follows concerns raised by various exporter associations, including the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), regarding the new requirement.
According to Zameen.Com, exporters will now be exempt from submitting affidavits when filing their sales tax returns for September, which are due this month. The FBR has also invited stakeholders to propose alternative solutions by October 31 to address issues related to falsified sales tax returns. In response to these concerns, the FBR has indicated that it may revise the affidavit requirement based on the feedback received.
While the FBR clarified that the affidavit imposes no new legal obligations, it emphasized that falsifying tax returns or using fake invoices remains a serious violation under the Sales Tax Act of 1990, punishable by both financial and criminal penalties.
