FPCCI Endorses New Direct Flights to Boost Pakistan-Azerbaijan Trade Relations

Karachi, The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has announced its support for the introduction of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, a move expected to enhance bilateral trade and economic ties significantly.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, expressed his support for the new air links, highlighting their potential to open up one of the most lucrative markets for Pakistani exports. The geographical proximity and existing land-based trade routes between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan are seen as key advantages in boosting trade relations.

The announcement followed a visit by H.E. Mr. Khazar Farhadov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, to the FPCCI's head office in Karachi. During this visit, discussions focused on expanding business-to-business and people-to-people contacts. Mr. Sheikh emphasized the importance of trade diplomacy and regular interactions between trade bodies to foster better trade negotiations and economic activities.

Ambassador Farhadov recalled the successful visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mr. Shehbaz Sharif to Azerbaijan in June 2023, which intensified the strategic partnership between the two nations. He noted that this visit led to significant developments in information communication technologies, transport, defense, energy, and trade.

Additionally, Mr. Farhadov informed that direct flights currently operate between Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi to Azerbaijan, with two flights per week from each city. He expressed the mutual desire to increase the frequency of these flights to accommodate the growing needs of travelers and businessmen from both countries.

Moreover, a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) is under discussion, which once signed, is expected to greatly benefit the business communities of both countries.
