Karachi: At a farewell reception hosted by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, emphasized the need for Pakistan to diversify its export portfolio to Indonesia to correct the trade imbalance between the two nations.
According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Kuncoro praised the quality of products available in Karachi, highlighting that Indonesian delegations frequently shop in the city due to the high quality of goods, including leather and surgical products. He noted that these items have significant potential for export enhancement. During his tenure, efforts to promote Pakistani exports, such as rice, to Indonesia saw considerable success, reflecting a growing trade relationship.
The Consul General also appreciated the support from the KCCI in fostering closer business ties between Pakistan and Indonesia, mentioning the successful organization of a Single Country exhibition in Jakarta. The meeting addressed concerns over trade imbalances and discussed strategies for increasing Pakistani exports to Indonesia, including the potential removal of quota restrictions which Dr. Kuncoro promised to pursue upon his return to Jakarta.
Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Businessmen Group, expressed gratitude for Dr. Kuncoro’s approachable and supportive role in enhancing trade and resolving visa and travel issues, urging the continuation of these efforts with Dr. Kuncoro’s successor.
The event also touched on the broader aspects of Pakistan-Indonesia relations, with calls for upgrading the Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement to a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement to better exploit business and investment opportunities.
