Islamabad Expressway Project Faces New Deadline of August 14

Islamabad: The Islamabad Expressway project has been assigned a new completion deadline of August 14, revised from the earlier September 30 date. The project initially set for completion by March 2024 had already seen extensions and missed targets.

According to Zameen.Com, Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, during a recent inspection, directed the contractor to ensure the expressway becomes a signal-free corridor by the revised deadline. This adjustment reflects significant recent progress and the urgency communicated by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to expedite the process. With major components like several bridges and the railway bridge nearing completion, the authorities are optimistic about meeting the new timeline.

The expressway, Critical for connecting Islamabad and Lahore, experiences regular congestion exacerbated by the ongoing construction. The September 2022 contract with Frontier Works Organisation aimed at expanding a key segment to alleviate traffic issues. Despite challenges, the ongoing rapid advancements support the feasibility of the new deadline, promising relief to daily commuters soon.
