Karachi: Jazz – Pakistan’s leading connectivity provider – and the Universal Service Fund (USF) have initiated the Badin Project to improve digital connectivity in Sindh, focusing on delivering mobile voice and broadband services to underserved communities in District Badin. According to Jazz Pakistan, the agreement was formalized at a ceremony in Karachi, highlighting a collective effort to provide digital access to areas with limited connectivity. The ceremony saw the presence of the Honorable Governor of Sindh, Mr. Kamran Tessori, and the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Ms. Shaza Fatima, as Chief Guests.
The PKR 668 million project aims to enhance telecom access in the district by establishing 45 new telecom sites and upgrading four existing ones. This development will extend reliable voice and high-speed mobile broadband services to 144 underserved mauzas, potentially reaching 0.43 million people. The expanded network is set to facilitate access to digital financial services, online learning, telehealth, and government e-services, while also benefiting small businesses and farmers with improved digital tools. The initiative is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities during its deployment and operation phases.
Aamir Ibrahim, CEO JazzWorld, stated that connectivity is crucial for inclusive growth and expressed gratitude for the support from USF and the Ministry of IT and Telecom. He emphasized the project’s role in ensuring that every Pakistani can engage in the digital economy. Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed, CEO USF, noted that the project is part of an ongoing partnership with Jazz to bridge the digital divide. By expanding broadband access in District Badin, they aim to foster socio-economic development and improve access to essential services.
The Badin Project continues the collaboration between Jazz and USF to expand digital access across Pakistan, enabling greater participation in the digital economy and advancing Jazz’s mission of delivering a Better Life for All.
