Karachi, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT): Cement Dispatches decrease by 19% YoY in Jul-2021

As per the latest data, Cement dispatch for the month of July clocked in at 3.9mn tons vs. a higher base of 4.8mn tons in the corresponding period of last year, reporting a decline of 19% YoY. The primary reasons for decline are monsoon rains during July, as well as a halt in construction activities on account of Eid-ul-Azha. Dispatches were 25% lower on a MoM basis. Exports also saw a decline of 49% on a YoY basis, as 452k tons were exported during July-2021 compared to 885k tons in the SPLY.

Local dispatches for the North region clocked in at 2.9mn tons for the month of July-2021 compared to 3.4mn tons in July-2020 depicting a decline of 16%. Exports from the region increased by 10% on a YoY basis.

Local dispatches for the Southern region clocked in at 554k tons during the month, a 7% YoY increase. Exports on the other hand, which constitute a major chunk of total dispatches from the region, witnessed a huge decline of 58% YoY in July-2021. Primary reason for the decline in exports is the ongoing monsoon season in Bangladesh which resulted in lower demand.
