Karachi: K-Electric has submitted a provisional request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for February 2025. The adjustment is proposed to provide relief of PKR 6.62 per kWh to its customers. A public hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2025, after which NEPRA will make a decision on the FCA amount and the duration it will be applicable to customer bills.
This marks the sixth consecutive FCA adjustment aimed at benefiting K-Electric customers. Previous adjustments include 0.18 paisa for September 2024, 0.49 paisa for October, 1.23 rupees for November, 3.0 rupees for December, and 3.02 rupees for January.
Fuel charge adjustments reflect global fuel price variations and changes in the power generation mix. When global fuel prices decrease, the benefits are passed to consumers through reduced FCA in their bills.
K-Electric has also addressed adjustments related to part load, degradation curves, and startup costs based on the Generation Tariff of Powerplants post-June 2023. The company has requested NEPRA to consider these factors to avoid future consumer burdens.
All FCAs are calculated according to regulatory guidelines and included in customer bills after NEPRA's approval.
