Karachi: As the city experienced its initial monsoon showers on Tuesday, K-Electric (KE) reported that power supply remained stable across the majority of the city. KE’s utility staff effectively managed the network to ensure continuous electricity through 1800 of the city's 2100 feeders, with only select areas experiencing temporary shutdowns due to safety concerns.
According to K-Electric, the preemptive power cuts in certain areas were due to risks from illegal connections, known locally as kundas, and potential waterlogging. These areas saw power restored promptly after weather conditions improved and field teams completed their safety assessments. KE has also been actively coordinating with the Government of Sindh, MET Department, and City Administration to prepare for the expected above-average rainfall this monsoon season.
KE’s spokesperson emphasized the importance of public safety during the rainy season, advising residents to keep a safe distance from all electrical infrastructure and to handle home appliances with dry hands. Additionally, those using generators were advised to keep them in elevated, dry areas to ensure safe operation.
For updates and customer service, KE encourages the use of its social media platforms, the KE Live App, and the WhatsApp self-service portal. In emergencies, customers can contact the utility’s help line at 118 to receive prompt assistance as per company protocols.
