Karachi’s Electricity Maintains Stability Despite Rainy Conditions

Karachi, Amidst the intermittent showers affecting the city, the electricity supply in Karachi has remained stable. The operations and readiness of K-Electric (KE) were notably robust, with almost all feeders fully energized and active response teams managing any arising issues.

According to K-Electric, the utility's network, which comprises nearly 2,100 feeders, had over 1,900 of them fully operational throughout the day. KE's proactive approach included close monitoring of the weather conditions and collaboration with the Met department, the Government of Sindh, and local city administrators. Certain areas prone to waterlogging or where illegal connections (kundas) are prevalent had their power supply temporarily halted for safety reasons, but were restored after thorough inspections by field teams.

KE has urged the public to maintain caution around electrical infrastructure, especially during rainy conditions, advising against the use of electrical appliances with wet hands or feet and staying clear of exposed wiring. The company remains available to address customer concerns through its 24/7 social media channels, the KE Live App, and WhatsApp. Additionally, the KE call center is operational around the clock to handle emergency electrical complaints during the rainy weather.

K-Electric, originally established in 1913 and privatized in 2005, is the sole integrated utility serving Karachi and its surrounding areas, covering a territory of 6,500 square kilometers. The majority of KE’s shares are held by a consortium including entities from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, with the Government of Pakistan retaining a minority stake.
