Karachi: There is an urgent need to raise awareness about environmental protection, emphasized Junaid Naqi, President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). Naqi called on industries, media, and the youth to actively combat climate change and pollution during a meeting titled "Breathe Pakistan," organized in collaboration with a private TV channel.
According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Naqi stressed the importance of developed nations adopting alternative energy systems to mitigate global warming. Despite contributing less than 1% to global pollution, Pakistan remains significantly vulnerable to climate change impacts, he noted. Naqi urged citizens to maintain a clean environment for future generations.
The event featured attendance from notable figures such as KATI's Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, KITE Limited CEO Zahid Saeed, and Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, among others. Commissioner Naqvi highlighted the significance of public-private partnerships for achieving environmental objectives and announced plans for urban forests along the Lyari Expressway to reduce Karachi's carbon footprint.
Shakeel Masood, CEO of the collaborating TV channel, called for media engagement in raising environmental awareness. He emphasized the need for private organizations and citizens to adopt eco-friendly policies. Zubair Chhaya underscored the global prioritization of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) measures, warning of economic repercussions for Pakistan if neglected.
The event included a presentation on an urban forest project by KITE Limited CEO Zahid Saeed, with various speakers reiterating the collective responsibility towards environmental awareness.
