Korangi Industrial Association Calls for Enhanced Rain Emergency Measures in Karachi

Karachi: In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, the President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Johar Kandahari, has called for the implementation of a comprehensive rain emergency strategy across Karachi, emphasizing the need for improved drainage and sanitation to manage potential flooding.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Kandahari highlighted the urgency of preparing for the monsoon by activating emergency relief camps and enhancing drainage systems, particularly in the Korangi Industrial Area. He stressed the necessity of clearing all major and minor drains and sewage lines promptly to prevent water accumulation and drainage issues during the rains. The call comes in response to the city's inadequate sewage system, which struggles to cope with heavy rainfall, particularly affecting the industrial and commercial sectors.

Kandahari urged the city and district administrations to map low-lying areas prone to flooding and to increase the capacity of the existing drainage systems. He also suggested redesigning main roads to ensure efficient water flow into drains and called for the district administration to ensure safety measures are in place well before the rains start.

The KATI president also pointed out the specific challenges in the Korangi industrial area, where rising water levels in the Malir River during rains severely impact traffic, especially at the Korangi crossing and causeway. He proposed that the provincial administration provide dewatering machines to clear drain choke points and ensure the availability of alternative routes and traffic management personnel to mitigate traffic jams and ensure safety.
