Oil and Gas Production Sees Yearly Surge Despite Weekly Dip

Karachi: Weekly oil and gas production inched up by 23% and 13% year-on-year, respectively, as of May 16, 2026, despite a slight weekly downturn. Oil production registered at 70,215 barrels per day, while gas production stood at 3,028 million cubic feet per day.

According to AKD Securities Limited, the year-on-year increase can be attributed to a revival in domestic hydrocarbon flows, which were enhanced as gas production wells ramped up following the reduction in line-pack pressure due to a force majeure on Qatari RLNG supplies. The new discoveries at Baragzai, Spinwam, and Shewa, combined with production increases at Nashpa, Makori Deep, and Kandhkot, contributed significantly to this annual growth.

Weekly figures, however, showed a slight decline, with oil production dropping by 2% compared to the previous week. This was primarily due to decreased output from Makori East and KPD, while Baragzai's production remained stable. Gas production saw a 3% weekly decrease, impacted by reduced flows from Uch and Kandhkot, though partially offset by increased production at Shewa.

The ongoing upward trend in annual production highlights the dynamic nature of the hydrocarbon sector and its responsiveness to both local and global supply chain adjustments.
