Pak Libya Holding Company Receives Boost in Ratings Amid Strategic Growth

Lahore: The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency Limited has upgraded the entity ratings of Pak Libya Holding Company (Pvt.) Limited, reflecting a marked improvement in the company's risk profile, asset quality, and profitability over the past two years. This enhancement underscores the company's strategic diversification and improved financial management practices.

The upgrade comes as Pak Libya expands its product offerings, venturing into high-potential areas such as the Margin Trading System, private equity, and non-funded income streams. This diversification aims to create multiple revenue avenues and bolster earnings sustainability, guided by the leadership of the Managing Director and CEO.

Pak Libya's treasury operations have benefited from effective duration matching between its investment portfolio and funding profile, minimizing interest rate risk. The company plans to enhance its Islamic banking presence and diversify investments through strategic partnerships in the agri-export and fintech sectors.

The company has restructured its management-level credit committee to optimize risk management and improve credit portfolio quality. A shift from fixed-rate to floating-rate instruments in its investment portfolio has been paired with increased use of long-term bank credit lines, reducing reliance on open market operations.

In the first quarter of the current calendar year, Pak Libya reported a net markup income of PKR 1.55 billion, a significant turnaround from a loss of PKR 639.07 million in the same period last year. The company's advances book increased to PKR 12.02 billion, while its asset base saw a reduction to PKR 334.63 billion, primarily due to a strategic reduction in government securities amid interest rate fluctuations.

The equity base of Pak Libya rose to PKR 6.88 billion, driven by profit reinvestment, and its Capital Adequacy Ratio improved to 32.49%, indicating strong risk absorption capability. The company's strengthened management framework, through strategic hiring, has led to enhanced operational effectiveness.

The ratings upgrade highlights the importance of sustaining a robust financial profile and managing emerging risks, with a focus on the impact of new ventures on business sustainability and profitability.
