Pakistan Government Approves Gwadar Rail Freight Connectivity Project

Gwadar, In a significant development for the country’s infrastructure, the Government of Pakistan has approved the Gwadar Rail Freight Connectivity project. This initiative is designed to link Gwadar Port with key locations across the nation, particularly enhancing connections within Balochistan.

According to Zameen.Com, this rail project is set to facilitate the transfer of goods to and from Gwadar Port, aiming to streamline logistics and reduce environmental impact by offering an eco-friendly alternative to road transport. Studies conducted by Pakistan Railways and the Gwadar Port Authority have laid the groundwork for the railway’s path, including strategic locations like Koh-e-Batil and the Eastbay Expressway.

Efforts to actualize the rail link include the Gwadar Port Authority and the port operator clearing paths for the track. Following Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s orders, the Gwadar Development Authority is also securing additional land to expand the necessary infrastructure, such as a container yard.

The Senate Committee on Maritime Affairs recognizes the potential of this project to significantly enhance Gwadar’s connectivity with major economic corridors like ML-1 and Quetta, foreseeing a transformative impact on trade and transportation dynamics in Pakistan and beyond.
