Pakistan Sees Record High Remittances of $30.3 Billion in FY24

Islamabad: In a robust display of economic support, overseas Pakistani workers remitted a record $30.3 billion back home during the fiscal year 2023-24, as per the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). This marks a significant increase of 10.7% from the previous fiscal year's total of $27.3 billion.

According to Zameen.Com, the surge in remittances is primarily attributed to more expatriates utilizing official channels for their transfers. Despite a slight month-on-month decline in June 2024, where remittances fell to $3.16 billion from $3.24 billion in May, there was a striking year-on-year increase of 44% from June 2023's total of $2.2 billion. The State Bank credits this growth to a stable currency environment and effective measures against unregulated currency transactions.

The World Bank's "Migration and Development Brief 40" report ranks Pakistan among the top five remittance-receiving countries globally in 2023. The report forecasts continued growth in remittances to Pakistan, projecting an increase to $28 billion in 2024 and $30 billion by 2025.

Remittances are pivotal for Pakistan, bolstering household incomes and contributing significantly to the national economy by improving living standards and aiding families in recovery efforts following disasters.
