Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a slight decline in its key indices on Thursday, with the KSE-100 index closing at 147,343.52 points, a decrease of 150.51 points or 0.10 percent from the previous day. The KSE-30 index also fell by 30.90 points, ending the day at 44,877.05, reflecting a 0.07 percent drop.
Market capitalization saw a slight increase of 0.04 percent, reaching Rs 17,535.89 billion, equivalent to US$ 62.23 billion. This marginal growth comes despite the day’s overall negative trend.
The day's top gainer was Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBTL), which rose by 10.05 percent to close at Rs 12.16. Other notable gainers included Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SAZEW) and Pak Elektron Limited (PAEL), which increased by 10.00 percent and 3.93 percent, respectively.
Conversely, some stocks faced declines, with Faysal Bank Limited (FABL) leading the losers by dropping 5.32 percent to Rs 74.16. Packages Limited (PABC) and Highnoon Laboratories Limited (HINOON) also saw declines of 3.97 percent and 3.28 percent, respectively.
The PSX's ready market witnessed a total turnover of 935.47 million shares, with a total trading value of Rs 33.52 billion, approximately US$ 118.93 million. The most actively traded stock was Pak Elektron Limited (PAEL), with 51.19 million shares traded at a value of Rs 2,364.08 million.
In regional market comparisons, China’s SSE Composite Index gained 1.1 percent, while India’s BSE Sensex fell by 0.9 percent. Other Asian markets, including Korea’s KOSPI and Indonesia’s JKSE, showed modest gains, whereas Malaysia’s KLSE and the Philippines’ PSI experienced small declines.
The PSX has shown considerable growth year-to-date, with the KSE-100 index up by 27.98 percent in the calendar year 2025. However, it remains below its 52-week high of 150,591.00 points, set earlier this year.
Despite the mixed results, the PSX continues to demonstrate resilience amidst fluctuating market conditions, with investors closely monitoring both domestic and international economic indicators that could affect future trading sessions.
