Punjab Government Allocates Over PKR 10 Billion for Interest-Free Livestock Loans

Lahore, The Punjab government has announced plans to provide more than PKR 10 billion in interest-free loans to livestock farmers in an effort to boost local meat production and support underprivileged communities.

According to Zameen.Com, The announcement was made by Punjab Agriculture and Livestock Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani during a review meeting of the Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L and DDD) for the 2024-2025 development programs. The meeting featured discussions on several key initiatives including the introduction of a “CM Livestock Card,” extensive vaccination programs to combat foot-and-mouth disease, and efforts to distribute livestock to impoverished women.

The government has outlined multiple funding allocations: PKR 10 billion will be available to landowners to enhance meat production and exports over a two-year period, PKR 7.5 billion is designated for vaccinating cows and buffaloes, and PKR 2 billion is aimed at aiding poor widows and women in South Punjab by providing them with livestock. These measures are part of a broader strategy to promote livestock farming, improve cattle and sheep genetics, develop vaccines, and enhance veterinary services.

The meeting also saw participation from the Punjab Social Protection Agency and the Akhuwat Foundation, with discussions on coordinating efforts to ensure the rapid and effective implementation of these projects. Officials were urged to submit their project proposals without delay.
