Lahore: In a significant move to boost tourism, the Punjab government has announced the launch of a glass train service between Rawalpindi and Murree. This initiative is designed to offer scenic views of the region and enhance the travel experience between these two destinations.
According to Zameen.Com, The Punjab government plans to collaborate with an international consultant to design the new train service, which features glass carriages for panoramic viewing. The announcement was made following a comprehensive five-hour meeting led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif. During the meeting, which also included Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, a range of topics related to urban planning and the Murree Development Project were discussed. The government also decided to restore historical names for regions, cities, and sites, including Murree itself.
Additionally, the meeting addressed issues related to urban aesthetics in Murree, concluding with plans to relocate high-rise hotels that obstruct scenic views along Mall Road. The prominent hotel at GPO Chowk is to be moved to a new location. A standardized facade and color scheme will also be implemented for heritage buildings to preserve their historical character.
The provincial government will now oversee the approval process for any changes to building regulations in Murree, ensuring a coordinated approach to the town’s development and conservation efforts.
