Punjab Transport Company Announces Launch of 27 Electric Buses in Lahore

Lahore: In a major push toward sustainable urban transport, the Punjab Transport Company has announced the introduction of 27 new electric buses in Lahore. This initiative, part of the Punjab Green Development Program and supported by the World Bank, aims to address longstanding public transport shortages and reduce environmental impact. The rollout is set to begin with an initial deployment of the buses, following a tendering process involving both national and international operators.

According to Zameen.Com, the Punjab Transport Company has set aside an annual budget of 2.5 crore rupees to hire operators for this eco-friendly project. The tendering process is expected to conclude by the first week of November, with operations slated to commence shortly thereafter. These new electric buses, each 2.55 meters wide and capable of seating between 44 to 49 passengers, are expected to serve approximately 6,000 passengers daily.

The buses will be utilized on previously inactive routes managed by the Punjab Transport Company, effectively revitalizing underused segments of the city's transport network. The electric buses, which come with a 12-year warranty and accompanying toolkits for maintenance, represent a significant investment in Lahore's commitment to greener, more sustainable public transportation solutions.
