Karachi: In a significant move to attract more tourists, Saudi has relaxed its visa requirements for Pakistani travelers, anticipating welcoming 2.7 million visitors in 2024. The new regulations lower the financial proof needed for a tourist visa, making it easier for Pakistani nationals to visit one of their top international destinations.
According to Saudia Airlines, the updated visa policy now requires Pakistani applicants to show a bank statement with a minimum monthly credit of USD 750 or its equivalent. This change comes after a 43% increase in Pakistani tourist arrivals to Saudi in 2023 compared to the previous year. To support the expected influx, Saudi has streamlined the visa application process through Tasheer offices located in major Pakistani cities including Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Multan.
These offices enhance the visa application experience by providing guidance, biometric enrollment, status tracking, and passport delivery services. Additionally, Saudi has introduced a transit visa for travelers flying via Saudia and Flynas, allowing them to explore the country for up to 96 hours. A visa on arrival feature is also available for those holding a valid and previously used UK, US, or Schengen visa.
Further facilitating cultural and spiritual visits, Saudi has introduced a one-year multiple entry visa specifically for personal visits such as weddings or family reunions. This visa also allows holders to perform Umrah, reflecting Saudi's commitment to fostering spiritual journeys.
The easier visa process is designed to encourage Pakistani travelers to explore Saudi's diverse attractions, from the bustling cityscape of Riyadh and the cultural richness of Jeddah to the historical sites of AlUla and the scenic Red Sea coast. Saudi aims to become a year-round destination, with cool regions to escape the summer heat and a packed calendar of winter events drawing tourists.
