Karachi: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) hosted an impactful seminar aimed at raising awareness about traffic law enforcement in industrial zones. The event focused on promoting safety practices among motorcyclists and employee transport vehicles to curb the rising number of road accidents.
SSP Traffic Korangi, Syed Muhammad Ali Raza, highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic regulations for safeguarding lives and improving traffic conditions in industrial areas. He emphasized essential safety measures such as mandatory helmet use, adherence to speed limits, and the necessity of valid driving licenses.
During the seminar, SSP Raza shared alarming statistics, revealing that Korangi witnessed 30 fatal accidents in just three months, with 23 involving motorcyclists. These accidents were often due to helmet negligence, failure to stay in lanes, and not using rear-view mirrors. He noted that Karachi has 4.2 million registered motorcycles, and recent fatal incidents involving heavy vehicles were linked to traffic law violations rather than solely driver negligence.
In response to these challenges, SSP Raza announced that 434 large vehicles in poor condition had been impounded. He urged industrialists and workers to view traffic law compliance as a collective responsibility and encouraged organizational-level awareness.
Additionally, a partnership with KATI was unveiled to develop more comfortable summer-friendly helmets, aiming to increase compliance. A fast-track desk will be set up at the license branch twice a week to assist KATI members.
KATI President Junaid Naqi also addressed the seminar, highlighting the daily traffic challenges faced by thousands of employees in industrial zones. He underscored KATI's commitment to public safety alongside industrial progress and called for enhanced traffic police presence and infrastructure upgrades.
The seminar was attended by representatives from various industries, traffic police officials, and KATI members, collectively focusing on enhancing traffic law awareness and road safety in Karachi's industrial zones.
