KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) President, Muhammad Ikram Rajput, has endorsed the Sindh cabinet's approval of the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA). He highlighted the potential for SEPRA to enhance the province's power sector, describing the establishment as a strategic move under the Sindh Regulation of Electric Power Services Act, 2023.
According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Rajput commended the Sindh government, specifically Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, for their roles in creating SEPRA, which aims to bolster provincial autonomy in electricity management. He expressed optimism about the leadership team, including Rafique Ahmed Sheikh as chairman and other key members, in guiding the authority towards transparent and effective regulation.
Rajput pointed out Sindh's abundance of low-cost power generation resources, including wind, solar, and coal reserves, and emphasized the importance of harnessing these for industrial growth. He noted that Karachi is poised to benefit significantly from a regulatory framework tailored to provincial needs, which could boost industrial competitiveness, exports, and job creation.
Rajput also mentioned the potential role of the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company in delivering electricity efficiently across the province. He suggested the development of industrial energy zones with substantial consumption capacities to attract investment and create employment.
In closing, Rajput assured that KATI would fully support the Sindh government and SEPRA in their efforts to ensure the regulatory framework facilitates affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
