Karachi: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has unveiled plans to construct two model roads in Karachi's industrial area, accompanied by enhanced cleanliness measures and door-to-door garbage collection services. Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Managing Director of SSWMB, announced these developments during a meeting with the Site Association of Industry. The initiative targets Norris to Dollar Road and Neena Street as the model roads.
According to S.I.T.E Association of Industry, the announcement was made in response to concerns raised by members regarding waste management in the area. Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah emphasized that the Municipal Utility Charges and Tax (MUCT) imposed by SSWMB do not involve any additional taxation by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). He also shared data on current garbage collection efforts within the city.
President of the Site Association of Industry, Ahmed Azim Alvi, expressed appreciation for the SSWMB's performance and confirmed the association's commitment to a clean and green initiative. Alvi suggested the inclusion of several streets as model streets, aiming to enhance the area's environmental standards.
Chief Coordinator Salim Parekh assured the managing director of the association's cooperation and proposed an introductory presentation to better inform members about their roles and responsibilities in the initiative. Parekh also highlighted the need for improved coordination to address the area's drainage cleanliness issues and underscored that members need to fulfill their financial obligations to support the SSWMB's efforts.
Former Vice President Saleem Nagria provided an overview of the existing agreements between SITE Limited, SSWMB, and the Site Association. He expressed optimism that the billing portal would enhance revenue collection for the SSWMB, which has reportedly seen improvements in the site's conditions during recent monsoon seasons.
