TikTok Intensifies Community Guidelines Enforcement in Q1 2024, Removing Nearly 167 Million Videos

Karachi: TikTok has released its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for the first quarter of 2024, detailing extensive efforts to maintain a safe and positive online environment. The report underscores the platform's ongoing commitment to transparency and the proactive measures it has implemented to ensure user safety globally.

According to TikTok, during the January to March period of 2024, the platform removed 166,997,307 videos worldwide, which represents about 0.9% of all videos uploaded. The majority of these videos, 129,335,793 to be exact, were detected and removed through automated technologies. Additionally, 6,042,287 videos were reinstated after further review. For the first time, TikTok has also disclosed figures for the removal and filtering of comments, with 976,479,946 comments addressed using comment safety tools in the same quarter.

In Pakistan, the platform removed 20,207,878 videos for violations of its Community Guidelines. The report highlights TikTok's aggressive approach to combating spam accounts and its high effectiveness in removing violating content quickly, with approximately 93.9% of such videos deleted within 24 hours of posting and a global proactive removal rate of 99.8%. Moreover, TikTok deleted 21,639,414 accounts suspected to belong to underage users in its bid to protect younger audiences.

The platform continues to emphasize the importance of consistent and fair enforcement of its guidelines, leveraging both advanced technology and human oversight to monitor and manage content.
