Karachi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted a $400 million concessional loan to assist in rebuilding homes and community infrastructure in Sindh, which has been severely affected by recent flooding.
According to Zameen.Com, the funding is part of the Sindh Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project, which focuses on restoring flood-damaged houses, aiding livelihood recovery, and boosting climate resilience across the province. This project aligns with ADB's broader commitment to provide $1.5 billion in flood recovery assistance to Pakistan from 2023 to 2025. Sindh, which sustained 83% of the housing damage reported, will see approximately 250,000 houses reconstructed using resilient designs. Additionally, the initiative will upgrade essential infrastructure for 100,000 households in 1,000 villages, including improvements to drinking water, sanitation, drainage, and the integration of renewable energy solutions.
The ADB also plans to support community-led initiatives for climate resilience and disaster risk management, alongside a $500,000 technical assistance grant to bolster the government’s capabilities in procurement, safeguard compliance, and project management.
