Islamabad: Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif virtually inaugurated the new Gwadar International Airport and oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting bilateral trade and cooperation. The virtual event, marking a significant advancement in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), also included discussions on future collaboration.
According to Zameen.Com, during Premier Li’s official visit to Islamabad, the agreements were signed across various sectors. The ceremonies featured commendations on the completion of the Gwadar Airport, hailed as a milestone of mutual dedication and teamwork. Premier Li underscored the critical role of such developments under the ongoing second phase of CPEC, which focuses on deepening ties through infrastructure, industrialization, and modernization efforts.
The visit began with Premier Li’s arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, where he was accorded full honors, including a floral reception and a 21-gun salute. The welcoming ceremonies at the Prime Minister’s House included a formal luncheon and delegation-level talks, focusing on reinforcing the strategic partnership and discussing wide-ranging topics from regional stability to global economic policies.
In their meetings, the leaders committed to the expedited completion of CPEC projects and addressed the need for enhanced security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan. The MoUs signed promise to elevate Pakistan’s industrial capacity and solidify its position in global markets, with Premier Li expressing optimism about the prospects of relocating Chinese industries to Pakistan. The visit, which included high-level engagements with other Pakistani leaders, is expected to conclude on October 17, after additional discussions on energy and security.
