ConnectHear and Ufone 4G Introduce AI-Based Alert System for Deaf Community

Islamabad: ConnectHear and Ufone 4G have launched an AI-powered Early Warning System named 'SUNO' to provide life-saving alerts in sign language for the Deaf community in Pakistan. This system, the first of its kind, aims to ensure that Deaf individuals receive timely emergency alerts during natural disasters.

SUNO is supported by the GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Fund and delivers sign language alerts through Ufone's WhatsApp bot. The service is available free of charge to at-risk individuals across Pakistan. ConnectHear is responsible for creating the sign language content using advanced AI technology, while Ufone ensures a wide distribution via its infrastructure.

Hatem Bamatraf, CEO of PTCL and Ufone 4G, emphasized the importance of digital inclusion and the company's commitment to social good through technology. He stated that the collaboration with ConnectHear is part of their effort to create meaningful impact.

Azima Dhanjee, Co-founder of ConnectHear, highlighted the significance of accessible communication during emergencies. She noted that Deaf individuals, including her own parents, have long been isolated from urgent alerts and emphasized that accessibility is a fundamental human necessity.

Kimberly Brown, Head of Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation at GSMA, expressed pride in supporting the platform through the GSMA Innovation Fund. She praised the partnership between ConnectHear and Ufone 4G for enabling accessibility and using mobile technology to break barriers in disaster preparedness.

The launch event in Islamabad highlighted the potential of technology and social innovation to provide inclusive solutions during crises. The AI Early Warning System represents a significant step forward in ensuring that critical services are accessible to all citizens.
