Karachi: A faulty internal wiring issue temporarily halted power at Civil Hospital, resulting in an emergency intervention by K-Electric despite the issue falling outside their service remit. The disruption was localized to the hospital’s internal systems and was not caused by the external electricity provider.

According to K-Electric issued on 07 Sep 2024, the utility company responded to a request for assistance from the Civil Hospital Administration. Although typically not responsible for internal electrical issues, K-Electric provided immediate support due to the hospital’s essential role in healthcare. The company emphasized the importance of hospitals being equipped with skilled electrical staff and regular maintenance checks to prevent such disruptions.

KE’s spokesperson highlighted the utility’s swift action, “While this is beyond our remit, we extended support on humanitarian grounds. Fortunately, a team was nearby and we were able to divert but this may not always be the case. It is important for critical institutions such as hospitals to be self-reliant.” The company also stressed the necessity for regular inspections and maintenance of hospital equipment to ensure faster resolution of internal faults in the future.

The collaboration between K-Electric’s distribution team and Civil Hospital’s administrative staff was instrumental in resolving the power outage promptly. K-Electric urges other critical institutions to enhance their internal technical capabilities to handle similar emergencies independently in the future.
