Islamabad: The federal government has launched a new strategy to privatise several state-owned entities, including the Pakistan Automobile Corporation, as part of an initiative to right-size government operations and curb expenditure.
According to Zameen.Com, the plan, driven by directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, involves the Ministry of Privatisation and the Ministry of Industries and Production. The strategy targets the privatisation of critical sectors to streamline federal operations and alleviate the financial burden on the government.
Entities identified for privatisation include the Pakistan Stone Development Company, Pakistan Automobile Corporation, Pakistan Institute of Management, and several others involved in various industrial and developmental capacities. The government is prioritising privatisation, with liquidation considered a secondary option if privatisation proves unfeasible. This approach aims to enhance efficiency and productivity across these sectors.
Overseeing this ambitious privatisation plan is the Right-Sizing Committee, led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The committee is responsible for managing the transition process and ensuring the privatisation strategy is executed smoothly and effectively.
