Gwadar Set to Become Global Trade Hub, Pakistani Officials Say

Lahore: Gwadar, a key port city in Pakistan's Balochistan province, is poised to become a major hub for global trade, according to former National Security Adviser General (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua. Speaking at a session organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Janjua emphasized the strategic significance of Balochistan and its potential to drive Pakistan's economic growth.

According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janjua highlighted that Gwadar and Chabahar serve as gateways to Asia and will increasingly attract global trade routes. He suggested that Pakistan's true economic potential is tied to Balochistan, despite Punjab's historical role in supporting the country's development. The session also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between LCCI and Gwadar Gymkhana, underscoring the commitment to harnessing Gwadar's potential.

LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol underscored the growing strategic importance of Gwadar Port, describing it as crucial to Pakistan's future economic landscape. He noted the region's investment opportunities, particularly in Gwadar and Balochistan, and advocated for promoting tourism as a means to boost economic prospects. Ahmed Iqbal Baloch, Chairman of Gwadar Gymkhana, reaffirmed Balochistan's untapped potential and the increasing international interest in Gwadar, which he described as located on a vital global trade route.

The officials present at the session conveyed a shared optimism about Gwadar's future, envisioning it as a transformative force for the region's economy. As the port city continues to develop, its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz and major energy routes could position Pakistan as a key player in regional and global trade networks.
