Sialkot, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): On June 6, 2023, His Excellency, Mr. Mohammed Bello Abioye, the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Pakistan visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Wahub Jahangir, Senior Vice President Sialkot Chamber, welcomed High Commissioner, acknowledging the need to transform economic and political relations into stronger economic ties. He said that the business community of Sialkot recognized Nigeria as an important trade partner, highlighting the untapped potential and the limited trade volume of around USD 126 million between the two countries.

Mr. Wahub Jahangir emphasized the value of increased collaboration, including trade delegations, joint trade exhibitions, and information sharing on tariff and customs duties. He also recognized private-sector linkages as crucial for driving economic growth and creating a favourable environment for trade expansion.

High Commissioner Bello Abioye emphasized the importance of facilitating direct trade and addressing challenges like indirect sourcing and limited export channels. He expressed his commitment to working closely with SCCI, promoting cooperation, exchanging information, and identifying tradable products.

Nigeria's investment policy and interest in exploring joint ventures and trade opportunities with Sialkot's business community were also highlighted. High Commissioner hoped that the meeting would mark a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade relations, providing a platform for enhanced dialogue, increased cooperation, and the exploration of untapped trade opportunities.
