Karachi Administration Orders Evacuation of Decaying Buildings for Public Safety

Karachi, In a significant move to ensure public safety, the Karachi city administration has mandated the evacuation of all decaying buildings across the city. This decision, effective from April 30, targets structures at risk of collapse, particularly during the rainy season.

According to Zameen.Com, the decision was finalized in a meeting led by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi. The meeting focused on the status of buildings under the Evacuee Property Trust Board, directing all Deputy Commissioners to inspect such structures within their jurisdictions and report back within a week.

Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to expedite the evacuation process. He also tasked municipalities with assessing the condition of historical buildings and markets to prevent potential disasters.

A survey conducted last year by the SBCA Technical Committee revealed that there are 550 dilapidated buildings in Karachi, many of which have already received evacuation notices. The proactive measures taken by the city administration aim to mitigate the risks associated with these unsafe structures and protect the residents of Karachi.
